The Professional Australian Defence Force Aviators' Reference Manual

PAARM
Third Edition May 2010 - now released
In 2004, ATC was selected by the Australian Defence Force, after a competitive open Tender process, to prepare a set of manuals for trainee aircrew of the Army, Navy and Air Force. This project is known as the Professional ADF Aviators’ Reference Manual (PAARM) and consists of 14 volumes in digital and hard copy format, in full colour. The CD contains extensive cross-referencing and includes a powerful search tool.
The 14 titles include: • Introduction • Meteorology & Climatology • Navigation & Flight Planning • Aircraft Radio, Communications & Radar • Aircraft Propulsion • Weapons Systems Principles • Flight Instruments & Instrument Flight Techniques • Radio Navigation & Instrument Flight Procedures • Aircraft Design Features (Fixed Wing) • Aircraft Design Features (Rotary Wing) • Flight Dynamics & Performance (Fixed Wing) • Flight Dynamics & Performance (Rotary Wing) • Flight Operations & Environments • Combat Survival
The third edition now has an added volume on Human Factors and includes a paper on NVG. PAARM has been adopted throughout the ADF and will become the standard reference for all aircrew. Approximately 3,000 CDs are issued annually to ensure that the PAARM is accessible to all aircrew and is kept up-to-date. It will also be presented on the Defence intranet. PAARM has its own web-site within Defence.
PAARM is an ATC registered trade mark and the copyright for all of the volumes, except weapons principles and combat survival, rests with ATC. PAARM may be made available to other government agencies and allied forces.
The ADF edition of the PAARM is currently only available to Units and serving members of the ADF. In addition to the issued copies, members may order additional copies directly from ATC.
The contract also provides for an annual amendment service over ten years. All aircrew are invited to suggest corrections and improvements via the PIRR system. Instructional media in support of the PAARM will also be developed in future.
